On September 12, the 4th session of the Meet the Author Series was convened by CTH, during which Dr Chris Suh from Emory University presented his newly published book entitled “The Allure of Empire: American Encounters with Asians in the Age of Transpacific Expansion and Exclusion” (New York, Oxford University Press, 2023).

CTH held the 3rd session of our Research Showcase Series, titled ‘Dravidian History: The Transimperial Journeys of a Linguistic, Political, and Racial Artefact’ on 9 July 2024, inviting Professor Shobana Shankar from the State University of New York as a speaker.

On 28 June 2024, five members of CTH participated in The World History Association’s 33rd Annual Conference in San Francisco, where they organised a panel entitled ‘Currents across Imperial Boundaries: Transimperial Entanglements of Colonialism and Anticolonialism in the 19th and 20th Centuries’. Satoshi Mizutani served as the chair.

CTH hosted the 2nd session of the Research Showcase Series titled ‘The Possibility of the Nonhuman in Transimperial History: Methodological Inquiry‘ on February 23, 2024, featuring Ms. Vicky Shen from the University of Pittsburgh as a speaker.

On 30 November 2023, three members of CTH participated in the 66th African Studies Association Annual Meeting in San Francisco, where, along with two other participants, they organised a panel entitled ‘Crossing Imperial Boundaries: Transimperial Circulations and Anti-colonial Strategies’.
Tomoki Yamada and Sakiko Nakao presented papers titled ‘Tanganyika and Indians in the Interwar Transimperial Settings: Colonial Aspirations and Anti-colonial Petitioning’ and ‘Africa for Africans and Asia for Asians? An Imagined Transimperial Alliance for Racial Resistance’, respectively. Satoshi Mizutani served as a discussant.

On 12 October 2023, the Center for Transimperial History held the first session of the Research Showcase Series, where Satoshi Mizutani presented his paper titled ‘The Dual Transimperiality of British Colonial Thought: The Evolution of the Egypt-Korea Analogy under Anglo-Japanese Cooperation’.
